Alhaurin el Grande is a town located in the province of Malaga with a population of around 22,000, 30 km. from Malaga, and at 239 meters above the sea level. It is one of the most picturesque villages in the Guadalhorce river valley and it is situated between the river Fahala and the stream of Blas Gonzalez. The coast is close by, with Fuengirola and Mijas, the drive up from the coast is stunning but be warned it is quite a long and winding road round the mountain either up from La Cala de Mijas or via the pretty village of Mijas Pueblo. There is a new road which runs through to Marbella to the south west. There is also a road connecting to the coast near Malaga passing through the towns Of Alhaurin de la Torre and Churriana

The town has a good selection of shops , bars, restaurants and hotels including a small area on the town known as little Britain where as the name suggests you can find a selection of English businesses including food shops, a book shop and of course the good old fish and chip shop.

In the last couple of years the town has started to really flourish with more and more foreign residents shunning the coast with its high prices and “heading for the hills” and with this growth has seen the town hall take action to ensure that the services the town has to offer benefits its growing population including the construction of new public library and a new theatre , a complete reform of the Ferria Ground in the centre of town as well as extensive improvements to the roads and public services in the town.
